Tunley Engineering offer 4 classroom Engineering training courses, Engineering Management, Root Cause Analysis, Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis and Engineering Recovery. 11 Webinars are now available delivered as either public or private sessions dependant on need.

The training is unique, incorporating Networking and Real-Life Examples. Each training course is supported by a post day networking evening included in the costs, this is a great way to unwind after a day of training, discuss the topics and grow our Networks. After each core area of the training breakout sessions are used to develop Real-Life examples bringing about practical solutions. In the case of the Engineering Recovery training a course Deliverable is a clear Recovery plan for the attendee to implement within their Business or Department.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

As with many competencies RCA is easy to talk about but difficult in practice, often only uncovering symptoms. This course cuts through the maze of methods and covers real, historic and current examples. This course covers the following:

Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA)

During the Apollo program NASA wanted and needed a way of assessing Design & Engineering risk on tens of thousands of components, their solution – DFMEAs. DFMEAs allow Severity, Occurrence and Detection of part feature design be approximate resulting in a Risk Priority Number RPN.

All too often we find that warranties due to Engineering Error were completely avoidable, DFMEAs are a method of reducing this occurrence. Traditional courses have a trainer / coach stand and talk for a day until the attendees are all but asleep, what differentiates our training is the engagement. Throughout the day we will build on basic Design Risk assessment working on real examples, after which the attendees split into groups and carry out DFMEAs on either their product or products supplied by Tunley Engineering. So, instead of the training delivering a method, attendees will have carried out several DFMEAs and leave the course with practical experience.

Engineering Recovery

Sometimes Engineering Departments are in a state of disrepair with late New Product Introduction (NPI) and overdue Customer Orders. Doing nothing only fixes the problem if order intake reduces; this is not a Recovery. This course runs over three days and is ideally suited to Engineering Managers with overdue NPIs and or Customer Orders.

Continual Professional Development

Continual Professional Development is a service which Tunley Engineering provides that creates a focused training plan for the Engineering team.

Good Engineers are expensive and difficult to replace, it is essential that all businesses develop their employees. This service is the foundation that supports upskilling the Engineering department. The Core and Sub-Competencies of each role within the Engineering Department are documented with the skill level required for each role defined. Following their approval One2Ones are used to extract each employee’s current competency level. This information is then collated to allow an automated skills gap analysis to be carried out which leads to a training plan. The training plan capitalizes on the strengths of each team member, where accreditation (e.g. forklift driving) is not required they are selected to deliver the training to the team members who need it for that competency.


Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEAs)

All Designs have Risks, this course will develop the Attendee’s Design Risk assessment competency using DFMEA techniques originally developed by NASA during the Apollo programme. This course is 4 x 1 hour sessions.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

Improvement opportunities exist in all Businesses and occasionally an improvement manifests itself as a problem, warranty or failure, this course develops the Attendee’s understanding of RCA techniques and processes. With combinations of how not to do and how to do the attendees will leave confident to undertake RCA within their company. This course is 4 x 1 hour sessions.

Engineering Management

Most Engineering Managers were Engineers first, this combination of courses will help aid, accelerate and support the competency differences between Engineering and Managing Engineers.

Bespoke Engineering Design Process

Often Bespoke order processes become constrained,
littered and over processed, this course will take the attendees through different Bespoke processes highlighting strengths and weaknesses, importantly the course cross references process requirements, for example ATEX. This course is 3 x 1 hour sessions.

New Product Introduction (NPI) Processes

NPI, often the Achilles heel of a Business, this
course outlines best practices including Minimum Viable Product (MVP), visibility, feasibility studies and more. This course is 4 x 1 hour sessions.

Design Verification Plan and Report (DVPR)

Verification is critical for any successful NPI, this course introduces DVPRs as a method of ensuring verification is consider, documented, completed and reported. This course is 2 x 1 hour sessions.

Engineering Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

To know if we are improving, we must first know where we are, the same is true of an Engineering Department. This course provides a great introduction into what to measure and how to use the KPIs within the context of an Engineering Department. This course is 3 x 1 hour sessions.

Engineering Visibility: Bespoke / Special Engineered Orders

The course targets high volume short lead time Engineering Orders, visibility is critical to the successful management of Bespoke Orders, this course demonstrates how simple systems can deliver significant benefits including reduced lead times and increased throughout. This course is 3 x 1 hour sessions..

Engineering Visibility: Burndown Charts

Accelerating the competency of your Engineering Department releases more value from the same cost base, this course will enable the Attendee to set up and facilitate a Training and Development method and platform based around competency matrices, a significant advantage is the targeted approach to internal training, therefore keeping costs low. This course is 3 x 1 hour sessions.

An Introduction to writing UK Patents

With the current challenges the time has never been better to write and file you own UK patents, this course will take the attendees through the UK process including building and drafting a patent live on one of the session. This course is 4 x 1 hour sessions.

An Introduction to CE Marking

All CE Marked product must have Technical Conformance Files (TCFs), this course will develop the Attendee’s competency such that they can create and build their own TCF. This course is 3 x 1 hour sessions.
